Henry McCollum, an innocent man who spent more than 30 years on North Carolina’s death row, helping with our efforts to expose the injustice of death penalty.
CDPL is a law firm, but we know that the fight to end the North Carolina death penalty cannot be won solely in the courtroom. That’s why we’ve made it a key part of our work to educate the public about the injustices of the North Carolina death penalty. We see the capital punishment system up close every day, and we are committed to sharing what we learn.
CDPL is an important resource for reporters across North Carolina, and we have successfully drawn public attention to important issues surrounding capital punishment, including innocence, racist prosecutions, and ineffective assistance of counsel. We produce original reports, research projects, and videos. We also work with advocates around the state to share diverse perspectives on the inner workings of the death penalty, and we partner with the NC Coalition for Alternatives to the Death Penalty to share stories about our cases.
